Feb 18th @ 8am was the day we were to get induced and Nana Liz was arriving in Terrace at 10am. Perfect timing! We would rec'd the gel (induction) first thing in the morning and then go to the airport to pick Nana up...or so we thought.
Nana phoned us right away to say that her flight was cancelled due to a plane getting struck by lightening. She was now arriving at 2pm. A little stressed at the time delay but when we got to the hospital our induction was also delayed until 10:00am! We figured that things would go the same as they did with the birth of Rylen but a little quicker but we were so wrong!!
-Feb 18th, induced at 8am
-Feb 18th, Rylen arrived at 7am
We rec'd the gel at 10:00am and started having contractions right away. After staying in the hospital for 1hr they sent us home and told us to come back at 4pm for another gel application.
Around 12:00 I decided to try and lie down and have a nap.
1:30pm came and we had to pick up Nana from the airport. We both decided that it was best that I stay home (just incase). I'm not sure what Andrew was worried about but my fear was that my water would break at the airport.
As soon as Andrew left I started having contractions again and thought that I should start timing them. 3-4mins apart!!
I'm so glad that I was home by myself because I would have been super embarrassed if someone saw and heard me at that moment. I ended up talking to myself, singing out loud and even tried to find split ends in my hair all to get a little distraction from the pain.
By 2pm my contractions were 2-3 mins apart and I moved myself from the bedroom into the living room to be on the look out for Andrew.
At 2:30pm the contractions were 2 mins apart and I finally figured out that I should be going to the hospital. For the next 15mins I was trying to figure out the best way to get to the hospital if Andrew didn't show up.
Finally Andrew, Nana and Rylen came home and without even saying hello to my mom I rushed out the door. We arrived at the hospital at 3pm and at 3:05pm we were checked and I was almost 7cm dilated!! Andrew and I were shocked!
Right away I asked for an epidural since I wasn't allowed to have one with Rylen, I was denied!!
Sometime shortly after being checked, they broke my water.
Within minutes our baby was born!!
Reid Douglas was born Feb 18th at 3:46 (40 mins of drug fee labour) weighing 9lbs 8oz!!
